27-year-old Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found dead in Texas after the team flew to Texas to play against the Rangers on Tuesday night.

Tyler Skaggs was found dead on Monday at the Hilton hotel after police answered a call about an “unconscious male in a room.” He was reportedly pronounced deceased at the scene. The Angels released a statement after Tyler Skaggs death was confirmed, which reads:

It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.

Tyler’s teammates remembered him at Tuesday nights game against the Texas Rangers:

Tyler Skaggs touched countless lives in the city he loved. He was passionate about a lot of things. And he really loved pitching in Southern California.

Skaggs pitched for the Angels but didn’t have the typical homegrown-player tale. The tattoos etched along his right arm included “Santa Monica,” where he grew up on the softball fields; his mother, Debbie, coached at Santa Monica High school. In cursive on his right triceps were the words “City of Angels.” On his right biceps was an unmistakable “LA” logo. – The Athletic
