Newton was in the concussion protocol immediately following Sunday’s game and we haven’t heard much else about him – or from him – since then. Coach Ron Rivera has been silent on the matter as well. With each passing day, it seems more and more unlikely that he’ll be able to suit up on Monday night, but only time will tell. – YardBarker

Our last BITE is about Cleveland Cavaliers J.R. Smith, who are in a classic contract stalemate!

It seems like there is no end in sight for the Cavs and J.R. Smith. We just got word that the Cavs are simply waiting for Smith to cave and sign the last contract they formally offered him, according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.

However, that is unlikely to happen anytime soon, as Vardon reports Cleveland offered somewhere in the range of $10 to $11 million per year and Smith is seeking $15 million annually.

It is also being reported that there has been no indication that Smith is seriously entertaining offers from other teams. Of course Smith is undoubtedly aware of some of the big-money deals that have been signed already by free agents this off-season.

Does that mean he will be one of the lucky ones to land a $10 million plus deal?

Players like Jeremy Lin signed with the Brooklyn Nets at $13 million annually for three years. And after hearing that Lin has not done anything special since the Linsanity outburst with the New York Knicks, so it kind of makes sense why J.R. SMith is gunning for more.

At this point Smith is not going to accept $10 million. Plus he doesn’t want to leave Cleveland. The only good thing in his pocket is that he shares an agent, Rich Paul, with LeBron James.
