BITES: Michael Irvin + NFL Network Part Ways; Amar’e Stoudemire Retires

CelebNSports247.com has just learned that Michael Irvin may be saying goodbye to his current gig with the NFL Network since his contract is set to expire before the 2016 football season.

Here is what we are hearing via Baller Alert:

The timing of his contract expiration is a bit off. Contracts like these are better if they expire before other networks have finalized their lineups. That way, reporters have time to switch networks if necessary. The timing in Irvin’s deal suggests to some that the NFL Hall of Famer wasn’t happy enough with NFLN’s offer to re-sign.

According to Michael McCarthy of Sporting News, the NFLN hopes to keep Irvin around and may up the ante if they have to.

If Irvin does decide to leave though, he doesn’t have many other networks to choose from. NBC, CBS, and FOX don’t have open seats this late in the game. ESPN may be a reasonable option given his employment from 2003-2007; although he got suspended for lying about an arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia in ‘05.

Meanwhile in the NBA, word has just got out that Amar’e Stoudemire time is OVER with the New York Knicks?

BITES: Michael Irvin + NFL Network Part Ways; Amar’e Stoudemire Retires

This story is a bit convoluted, but here is what is being reported about the 33-year-old, Amar’e Stoudemire baller.

The NY Post reports:

Stoudemire  signed a one-day contract Tuesday so he could retire as a NY Knicks, but what the 33-year-old truly wanted was to finish where his career started — in Phoenix with the Suns.

It turns out the feelings were not mutual.  Stoudemire told azcentral.com Thursday.:

“The last two years, we made phone calls to Phoenix, but I wasn’t getting any positive response.”

“That would’ve been the perfect way to go out. I didn’t want to beg Phoenix. My heart was in two places — Phoenix and New York. I just went where I was wanted.”

Stoudemire spent the first eight of his 14 NBA years in Phoenix, where he experienced the bulk of his success. One of the most dominant power forwards of his era, five of Stoudemire’s six All-Star appearances came with the Suns.

After signing a $99.7 million deal with the Knicks in 2010, Stoudemire declared:

“The Knicks are back!’’

Too bad Carmelo Anthony’s skills over shadowed Stoudemire’s game ever season. Only A’mare’s first year was his best. Maybe retiring from the Knicks if smart and 14 seasons in the NBA?

What do you think?
