Hmmm.

Then, we just got word that JJ Watt undergoes back surgery!!!

 J.J. Watt

We just got word that J.J. Watt underwent back surgery recently and will open training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but the surgery should not cause him to miss any games this season.

The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reported the news on Twitter Thursday about Watt’s surgery:

The three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year has not missed a game during his five-year career. That includes the 2012 season, when he missed the preseason because of an elbow injury but still played 16 games and went on to capture his first Defensive Player of the Year award. Obviously the back surgery was more serious than he led on since he just underwent back surgery 2 months before the season starts.

We also just got word that Eugene Monroe retires at 29, says he is ‘terrified’ of brain injuries!!!

Eugene Monroe

The Former Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Eugene Monroe posted an open letter to announce that he’s retiring in fears of brain injuries from playing in the NFL!

It’s official as of Thursday that Eugene Monroe is retiring from the NFL after just seven seasons.

Monroe wrote:

“The last 18 years have been full of traumatic injuries to both my head and my body.”

“I’m not complaining, just stating a fact. Has the damage to my brain already been done? Do I have CTE? I hope I don’t, but over 90 percent of the brains of former NFL players that have been examined showed signs of the disease. I am terrified.”

Monroe has been one of the biggest advocates for allowing NFL players to use marijuana for pain management, and he wondered out loud earlier this off-season if that contributed to the Ravens’ decision to release him in June.

Now that he has decided to give up football, Monroe says his first order of business will be to evaluate his health, explaining:

“That’s why one of the first things I’m planning to do is to go to the doctor.”

“I need to take stock of my current health, and I don’t want to miss a thing. I’m going to get brain and body imaging scans, mental health assessments – anything that might help me get a handle on the state of my body and my mind. My health is critical to the future of my family.”

He posted this on his Instagram 5 weeks ago stating that he was not returning to the Ravens:

When you get the feeling you have to go with your gut, so we support Eugene’s decision to retire. Believe it or not, 29 is not that young for retirement from football.

Now he can focus on his health and his family.

Good luck with everything Eugene.
