CelebNSports247.com reports that the bat Ruth used to hit his 500th career home run was auctioned off on Saturday in Southern California for more than $1 million dollars.

The History of The Iconic Babe Ruth Bat:

Ruth autographed the bat and gave it to former Suffern, New York, mayor Jim Rice in the 1940s, per the report. The Rice family held on to it for nearly 75 years before putting it up for auction.

Ruth was the first MLB player in history to hit the 500-home-run mark, doing so in 1929 against the Cleveland Indians. He is currently third on the all-time homers list with 714, trailing just Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds. Albert Pujols is the closest active player to catching Ruth with 656 career home runs, according to YahooSports.
