First up, CelebNSports247.com has this report on A’s pitcher Sonny Gray who has been traded to the New York Yankees.

The Yankees believe by Sonny Gray that they significantly improved their chances of securing championship No. 28 on Monday.

What do the Athletics get for trading Sonny Gray?

Oakland has received three top prospects from the New York Yankees. The Yanks agreed to swap outfielder Dustin Fowler, infielder Jorge Mateo and right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian to Oakland.

We will have to go checkout a game in Oakland now that Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo and James Kaprielian have become Athletics.

As for the 27-year-old Gray, who was the top available starters in the marketplace, Yankees manager Joe Girardi had this to say:

“I think we’ve definitely improved ourselves. When I look at ownership and the front office, they’ve given us an opportunity to do something special here. Now we have to go out and do it.”

Over in Texas, the Houston Astros also made a score for their team by acquiring Francisco Liriano from the Toronto Blue Jays!

The Astros agreed to acquire left-hander Francisco Liriano from the Blue Jays hours before Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline..

Sporting News reports:

In exchange for Liriano, the Blue Jays will receive outfielder Nori Aoki and a minor-league player to the Blue Jays.

Throughout the majority of his career, Liriano has been a starting pitcher, but the injury-riddled veteran may be warming the bench in Houston.

This is the second time in two years that Liriano has been traded. In 2016, he was traded to Toronto from the Pirates before last summer’s trade deadline.

Now that he is with Houston, there are a few changes. The Dominican pitcher is 6-5 with a 5.88 ERA, but a move to the bullpen could allow him to throw his best pitches more regularly, accentuating his solid strikeout rate.

As of now, the Astros could opt to keep Liriano in the rotation during the regular season, but he will most likely be in the bullpen during the postseason
