CelebNSports247.com reports that Tim Ryan made a remark about Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson on a Bay Area sports talk radio show Monday.
Tim Ryan said on air that Lamar Jackson, who is black, is exceptional at faking handoffs because:
He’s really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing.
WTF is that about Tim Ryan? It sounds pretty damn racist if you ask us!
The comments came in the first couple of minutes of Ryan’s weekly segment with KNBR’s “Murph and Mac” morning radio show as the hosts asked the San Jose native about Jackson’s performance in Sunday’s 20-17 victory over the 49ers.
During Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Jackson gained most of his yards running a zone-read type offense, in which he frequently fakes a handoff to a running back before keeping the ball to run himself.
Since being called out for his racially insensitive comments regarding a man named Lamar Jackson and his impressive skills on the field, the 49ers have suspended him. But for only one game. – per the SF Chronical who reported the new first.
Of course, Tim Ryan gave an apologetic statement through the team.
He said:
I regret my choice of words in trying to describe the conditions of the game. Lamar Jackson is an MVP-caliber player and I respect him greatly. I want to sincerely apologize to him and anyone else I offended.
Once a racist always a racist.
Anyways, the San Francisco 49ers released this statement to do some damage control:
We are disappointed in Tim Ryan’s comments earlier this week and have suspended him for the upcoming game. We hold Tim to a high standard as a representative of our organization and he must be more thoughtful with his words. Tim has expressed remorse in a public statement and has also done so with us privately. We know Tim as a man of high integrity and are confident he will grow and learn from this experience.
We have reached out to the Baltimore Ravens organization to extend our apologies and assure them the matter is not being taken lightly.
Tim Ryan played defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears from 1990-1993. He has been the Niners’ radio color analyst since 2014.
