CelebNSports247.com reports that Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis had to be held back to the dugout after manager Brandon Hyde had some choice words for him following another failed at-bat.
Tensions appeared to boil over when manager Brandon Hyde made a sideways comment towards Chris Davis who has been having a tough season. You could already see he was beating himself up, and the added pressure from Hyde just pushed him over the edge.
It’s been a tough stretch for Davis and Hyde. Still, a player going after a manager is as good a sign as any that things might be irrevocably broken.
USA Today reports:
The incident came in the middle of the fifth inning as the Orioles were trailing the New York Yankees 6-1 when slugger Chris Davis and manager Brandon Hyde had a brief exchange in the dugout.
As Hyde was walking away toward the clubhouse tunnel, television cameras caught the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Davis getting visibly angry, so much so that it took two nearby Orioles to prevent him from going after Hyde.
In the bottom of the inning, Jace Peterson pinch-hit for Davis and Renato Nunez took over at first base.
Davis is hitting .188 this season with nine home runs and 31 RBI in 574 at-bats.
To add more sting to the Orioles, the Yankees continued the domination of their AL East foes. They hit five more home runs to bring their total to 43 homers in 10 games (all wins) at Baltimore — and extend their major-league record for the most round-trippers hit against one team in a single season to 52.
Take a look as The Yankees Set Record for HR’s against the Orioles:
Yankees have now hit 49 homers against the O’s this season.
That’s the single-season record for most vs. any opponent ?
