CelebNSports247.com report that Browns running back Duke Johnson requested a trade in April after the Browns put him on the trade block and were unable to complete a trade.
What happened was that the Browns started shopping Johnson around the league after signing Kareem Hunt in February, creating less of a role in the offense for Johnson.
We understand why Duke Johnson felt some type of way since he hadn’t even started with his new team.
Johnson confirmed to reporters at minicamp on Tuesday that he wants the team to trade him, (video above)
Johnson told reporters:
My trade request was to meet them on a middle ground. I was put on the trade block a month before I requested a trade, so that’s all it is.
Johnson added that he won’t be a “disgruntled employee” if the Browns don’t move him before Week 1, but he wants to avoid a situation like the one where Carlos Hyde was traded in the middle of the season.
LBS feels, Johnson was already a distant second on the depth chart behind Nick Chubb, and he will have an even tougher time finding touches once Kareem Hunt returns from his eight-game suspension.
Meanwhile, Browns QB Baker Mayfield said of Johnson’s situation Tuesday, according to 92.3 The Fan’s Keith Britton.
It’s not awkward. It’s self-inflicted…I hope he does his job.
