Levine praised Betances as a “great person” and “elite setup man.” On the flip side, he had heavy criticism about Betances’ agent, Jim Murray.

Murray, FIRED BACK with an open letter to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal about Levine’s comments. An angered Murray expressed Levine’s decision to speak to the media about Betances’ situation, stating:
“[W]e are not going to be bullied by the Yankees team president. His statements are reprehensible and outright false. His desire to conduct a press conference today amounts to nothing but grandstanding and trying to mislead the media. This guy was a 3-time All-Star. He is a unique pitcher that the arbitration system had never seen. He is about as unique as they come. We all knew it was going to be a landmark decision because of what this player has done.”
Betances followed his agents statements because of Levine’s back-handed compliment during a 20-minute conference call. The 28-year-old all-star said he felt “trashed” by the Yankees during the 90-minute arbitration hearing Friday.
Betances said:
“I was planning on putting everything behind me until I was aware of Randy Levine’s comments.” But Levine called him “the victim in this whole process and saying how much they love me.”
He added:
He explains that they took him “in a room” and then “trash me for about an hour-and-a-half.” Betances felt the whole thing “was unfair.”
When it comes to his availability to pitch multiple innings and in the middle of innings, he’s going to think about it. Betances, who has led relievers in innings pitched and strikeouts states:
“It is fair for me to say that.”
