CelebnSports247.com reports that Tom Brady motivated his former New England Patriots teammate to do a little damage control this weekend.
It all started when Julian Edelman joined NFL Network’s virtual Draft-A-Thon on Thursday night and Tom Brady made a (not so?) innocent joke about the wide receiver coming out of retirement to join him on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gronk came out of retirement, so Brady was apparently in hopes that Julian Edelman would follow suit.
Well, Julian Edelman was triggered after Brady said this:
We know Julian didn’t retire. Let’s be honest. He’s just too scared to tell (Patriots head coach) Bill (Belichick) he wants to come to Tampa. I’ve been there!
It sounded like, Brady’s edgy remark sparked speculation about Edelman pulling a Rob Gronkowski and unretiring to sign with the Bucs.
Then, former NFL punter Pat McAfee added to that speculation Friday on his radio show – so Edelman shut down the rumors on Sunday.
Julian has used the #FoxboroForever hashtag liberally since announcing his retirement and owes his entire NFL career to the Patriots
Perhaps Edelman really does feel loyalty to New England and is content ending his career as a Patriot. The 34-year-old also said recently that injuries forced him to call it quits, so all of this comeback talk might be a non-starter, anyway.
He owes nobody but himself and if Julian wants to stay in retirement and keep from a serious injury people need to understand that.
Edelman Checks Patriots:
While Edelman continues to stay retired, it may be a little tongue-in-cheek, Edelman’s competitive spirit and drive are clearly still there.

The Patriots made sure to fix it after being called out:
