Needless to say, it was quite a nerve-racking experience for 6′ 0″ 24-year-old Cubs infielder. Javier Baez had this to say about posing nude for ESPN:
“At first when I got there, when I did it in Spring Training, I was nervous because obviously being naked around people. I had my girl there, my mother-in-law, my father-in-law. It was really weird at first but then it was very professional.”

Each athlete will grace one of the regional covers of the magazine, like Arreita did in 2016.
Javier was approached last November after the team’s World Series championship, but before he did it, he asked Arrieta to get an idea of what might be ahead of him for the shoot.
Baez told WGNTV that Arrieta gave a similar description of the “Body Issue” photo session.
“He told me that it was really cool. Same thing, he got nervous then everything was fine.”
