Jets Cut Offensive Guard Kelechi Osemele; He's Taking Legal Action

CelebNSports247.com has learned that Osemele underwent surgery Friday for a torn right labrum, and agent Andrew Kessler told ESPN the damage to his client’s shoulder was more extensive than anticipated.

This is NOT what the New York Jets wanted to hear, but instead of supporting one of their longtime players, they’ve turned their backs on Kelechi Osemele.

According to the NY Post, Osemele is making $9.85 million in his first year with the Jets, part of a five-year, $58.5 million contract he signed with the Raiders. But he has no guaranteed money after this season and has filed a grievance to recoup his lost money.

The Jets owe him the balance of his contract both under the Standard Injury Guarantee Provision of the Player Contract and under Termination Pay.

After the news that the Jets cut Kelechi Osemele on Saturday, Kessler said in a statement:

We will pursue through that and all Fines to be rescinded through Grievances.

Meanwhile, Jets coach Adam Gase and GM Joe Douglas have remained quiet on the matter, likely because of the legal fight that could ensue.

We find this interesting especially since the finale of Ballers touched on the NFL giving players the proper healthcare and insurance after a player had played for three or more years in the NFL. Maybe the NFL should do something like they did in Ballers because it’s definitely needed.

The Jets also announced they activated LB James Burgess off the practice squad.
