CelebnSports247.com reports that UFC 269 has lost a highly anticipated bout for December as Jorge Masvidal is out of his fight against Leon Edwards.
The MMA world is in shock by the news, but that’s the breaks?
According to reports, Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards were set to fight after years of begging for it to happen.
However, the news of the cancellation with Brett Okamoto was informed by UFC’s Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell that Jorge Masvidal was injured.
As of now, it is unclear what the plan is for Leon Edwards or UFC 269.
ESPN reports:
UFC 269 remains a stacked event with two title fights as Amanda Nunes is taking on Julianna Pena for the bantamweight title defense while the lightweight title is being defended as Charles Oliveira defends against fan-favorite Dustin Poirier.
Edwards had been in talks to fight Jorge Masvidal ever since 2019 when the two had a backstage altercation at UFC London. Masvidal walked up to him and famously hit him with the ‘three-piece and soda.’
UFC 269 was the event where the two would finally meet up and help determine their standings in the welterweight division. Leon Edwards has been expected to fight for the welterweight title for a long time.
The situation regarding the fight being canceled is an interesting one as Colby Covington told Masvidal to pull out of his fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 269 so they could fight. It appears Gamebred was paying attention.
It is unclear if Leon Edwards will stay on UFC 269 or if he will be rebooked against someone else. The Englishman has been hoping for a title shot.
