CelebNSports247.com reports that JR Smith lost his cool allegedly stole a cell phone from a fan and then threw it into a construction site.
The incident happened back in late July [around 2:30 AM on Sunday morning] when Smith was spotted by a fan after he’d been partying at The Park in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood, according to reports.
Law enforcement sources claim:
We’re told … Smith allegedly approached the fan and snatched the phone out of his hand and then launched it into a nearby construction zone. The fan claims his $800 phone was damaged and he has filed a report with police.
Now that J.R. has turned himself in, he has been charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief. In addition to the charge, he has also issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
J.R.’s attorney Alex Spiro called the whole thing “nonsense.” He also said, “we aren’t responding to nonsense. He has issued a ticket.”
“The fan claims his $800 phone was damaged and he has filed a report with police,” according to TMZ Sports.
