CelebnSports247.com reports that Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema will face trial for his alleged involvement in blackmailing former France teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
The Versailles prosecutor’s office said this Thursday in regards to the “sex tape” scandal involving Karim Benzema teammate Mathieu Valbuena:
Benzema is suspected of having pressured his former national team teammate to pay blackmailers who threatened to reveal an intimate video in which Valbuena was featured. He will stand trial on the charge of conspiracy to attempt blackmail, the prosecutor’s office said in a message to The Associated Press. A date for the trial has yet to be set.

Benzema, 33, is the most talented French forward of his generation, has been banned from the national team since November 2015 because of his suspected involvement in the scandal.
The investigators who charged Benzema believe he was approached by a childhood friend that year to act as an intermediary and persuade Valbuena to deal directly with the blackmailers. Instead, Valbuena informed the police.
Four other people will also stand trial in the case. Benzema denies any wrongdoing.
Benzema’s lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, via ESPN, denouncing a perceived “persecution” against the player:
This decision is as much absurd as it was predictable.
It’s alleged that Karim Benzema was said to have paid some persons to extort money from Valbuena by threatening to release his x-rated video to the public.
In 2015, it was also said that Benzema was said to have played some part in a frame-up of his national teammate, Mathieu Valbuena and now, the sex-tape controversy has resurfaced.
