Michael Sam: Coming Out Backfired; LGBT Community Used Me

CelebNSports247.com report that Michael Sam thought he was on top of the world as the first openly gay player in the NFL when the Rams took him in the 2014 draft but he quickly learned he was a pawn.

The former St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Michael Sam opened up to Yahoo Sports explaining that “no one would give me a job” after his brief NFL career ended.

In fact, things got real ugly for Sam as he began to abuse drugs and alcohol, and once he found himself in a one-bedroom apartment in Dallas.

He recalls reaching out to the LGBT community and other organizations, but nobody seemed to want to help him.

Michael says:

No one would give me a job. Where was the support that I got for coming out? I felt like I was used by everyone.

Things got so bad for him the he “felt lost and worthless,” and unfortunately turned to drugs. Michael was partying, working out and hooked on cocaine.

Fast forward to now, Michael Sam has cleaned up his act and no longer abuses drugs. He is currently working to heal his broken relationship with his family.

The 29-year-old looks back and has one wish:

I wish I was still playing football, but I know if I was in the NFL I wouldn’t have a relationship with my family.

He adds that he contacted the NFL’s player engagement department in hopes of landing a job, but after giving him a tour of the league offices in New York, he said:

They just sent me on my way.

Sam, unfortunately, became a statistic showing that the NFL is still NOT the place to admit you are gay. This is why many gay NFL players still fly under the radar a live a DL lifestyle until they retire. Most NEVER come out openly. Sports is still NOT to accepting of gay ballers in the MLB, NFL, NBA, NFL, or Boxing.

Sorry to the LGBT community, but the truth is the truth.

As for Michael his 15 minutes came and went quickly. Sorry man.
