Red Sox manager John Farrell announced Thursday, that Pablo Sandoval showed up to spring training with a big gut, and his performance on the field was poor, so he’ll begin the season on the Red Sox bench!!!
Life is rough, but we know that the Red Sox will be putting Pablo Sandoval on a serious diet.

What Pablo Sandoval needs to pay attention to is that his third base spot will be replace by the young up-and-comer Travis Shaw.

Shaw hit .270/.327/.487 with 13 home runs and 10 doubles in 65 games last year, and the 25-year-old slashed .333/.377/.509 with a pair of home runs this spring.
Sandoval’s contract is for $17.6 million this season, which is an expensive price tag for someone who will see limited action. But it’s hard to fault Farrell for going with the player who is playing better.
Maybe Sandoval needs to pull back on the extra large meals, because if he doesn’t loses the weight he might call the bench his new home. And lets be honest all that stomach is not attractive.
In contrast, Shaw will make $507,000 this season.
