CelebNSports247.com reports that Robert Quinn availability for Week 1 was in question after he fractured his left hand in Tuesday’s practice, but not anymore. The Cowboys defensive end won’t be available for Week 1 or Week 2.
Robert Quinn had recently returned to Dallas to undergo surgery on a fractured left hand that he sustained in practice earlier this week.
The 29-year-old will be allowed to practice in training camp and even play in the preseason games, but it’s unlikely that his injury would allow him to participate.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told reporters Thursday in regards to the DE’s suspension [via NFL.com]:
We support Robert Quinn. We trust Robert Quinn. We really like everything he’s done for our team since he’s been here. We’re excited about his future with our team.
Quinn is eligible to return on Sept. 16, following the Cowboys’ Week 2 game at Washington.
The Cowboys traded for Quinn in the offseason, adding the former Pro Bowl pass rusher who has 69 career sacks, and at last four in each of his eight pro seasons.
Cowboys still out and in recover are DeMarcus Lawrence (shoulder surgery) who remains on the PUP list. Tyrone Crawford is in the same boat, and Randy Gregoy remains suspended and his timetable for return is unknown.
This news further clouds the Cowboys’ defensive end position heading into the season. DeMarcus Lawrence (shoulder surgery) remains on the PUP list and has yet to practice. Tyrone Crawford being investigated after bar brawl, he could be facing action from the NFL regarding a summer off-the-field incident. Randy Gregory suspended indefinitely by the Cowboys. Gregory has been suspended four times since being selected by Dallas in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
That leaves Taco Charlton, Dorance Armstrong, Kerry Hyder and a host of rookies that will have the shot to jump into the mix during these four preseason games.
