During an interview with Arsenio Hall on his talk show, Crews shed some light on bullying in the NFL when asked about the infamous Richie Incognito/Jonathan Martin situation with the Dolphins in 2013.
Crews reflected on his own experience in the NFL to explain why Martin did the right thing in walking away from the game. If you remember, Jonathan Martin posted a powerful piece about his life and decision to retire from the NFL back in August of 2015.
After hearing what Terry Crews had to say and what he endured, we completely understand. See Terry supports Martin’s leaving. Crews said, adding Martin simply realized his teammates were laughing at him and not with him.
Terry explains:
“The NFL is like jail with money, it really is…There’s a culture of intimidation, humiliation and violence that tries to keep you in control. But the moment you realize the NFL doesn’t have control over you anymore is when you realize, ‘I can walk away.’”
Crews adds:
“I got bullied straight up…When I got cut and realized I let this man call me Tyrone, I let this man play games in front of everybody, I had visions of going back and doing something really, really bad. … NFL players are not that stable. (Martin) did the smart move.”
