CelebNSports247.com has learned that Padres beat writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune Kevin Acee reports that the Texas Rangers has suspended their pitcher and manager.
Kevin Acee reports:
Rangers pitcher Ian Gibaut has been suspended three games for throwing behind Manny Machado last night. He is appealing. Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward has been suspended one game and will sit out today.
The news of the suspension comes one day after the incident during the Texas Rangers vs the San Diego Pardres game on Monday.
Gibaut, who received a three-game suspension, threw behind San Diego’s Manny Machado after Tatis cleared the bases in the eighth inning – a homer that is alleged to have violated baseball’s “unwritten rules,” swinging at a 3-0 pitch with a comfortable lead.
Woodward, who will serve his one-game suspension on Tuesday night, said:
You’re up by seven in the eighth inning; it’s typically not a good time to swing 3-0. It’s kind of the way we were all raised in the game. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not right. I don’t think we liked it as a group.
Gibaut is appealing his three-game suspension.
Though the Rangers – and Padres manager Jayce Tingler – weren’t happy with Tatis for swinging for the fences with a seven-run lead, most of the baseball world has been unified in its support of the San Diego phenom.
