CelebnSports247.com reports that Williams first noticed a growth on his head in 2013 while with the Washington Redskins. However, team doctors said it was not a serious issue.

But in 2019, Williams had the growth removed and it turned out to be cancerous.

Trent Williams missed the 2019 season, first because of a dispute with Washington’s medical staff about how they handled his condition and then due to postsurgical soreness which was exacerbated by his helmet.

In an upcoming episode of the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Williams describes his cancer battle more in-depth, including the moment he Googled the name of the doctor he was slated to see and realized it was an oncologist.

Williams said:

Once I Googled that, I didn’t even tell my mom. I just closed the door. It was probably 3 o’clock in the evening. I just sat in there and cried myself to sleep, on and off. I didn’t come out until noon the next day.

Fortunately for Williams, he was able to make a recovery and after being traded to the 49ers in April 2020, immediately resumed being elite. He made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons and was named All-Pro in 2021.
