Panthers WR Shi Smith Arrested On Gun & Drug Charges!

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Shi Smith just screwed up his NFL career…

CelebnSports247.com reports that Shi Smith was arrested Friday on charges of possession of an unlawful handgun and a narcotic with intent to distribute, according to Union County, South Carolina, records.

The Carolina Panthers wide receiver Shi Smith was released from the county detention center on a $5,000 bond for the drug charge and a $1,000 bond for the gun charge.

On top of the gun and drug charges, Smith also was charged with speeding 16 to 24 mph over the legal limit.

Smith had six catches for 104 yards this past season and was a key member of special teams. He is entering the second year of a four-year, $3.4 million rookie contract.

WYFF4 reports:

Capt. Scott Coffer said Smith was arrested just before 11:30 a.m. after a deputy stopped a black Mercedes Benz on Highway 176 near Sams Road for speeding.

Deputies said he was traveling 86 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Coffer said the deputy smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Smith was released on a $6,000 bond, Coffer said.

The Panthers say they are aware of the arrest but will have no further comment at this time as it is a pending legal matter.
