The University of South Florida suspended running back Michel Dukes indefinitely Monday, the school said in a statement. He was charged with domestic battery by strangulation, according to the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office. Dukes could not be reached for comment.
“USF Athletics is aware of a situation involving senior student-athlete Michel Dukes,” the school said in a statement obtained by The Athletic. “We have taken the immediate step of suspending him indefinitely from the team as we continue to gather more information and the proper authorities investigate the matter. We will have no further statement at this time.”
Dukes, 22, was arrested and booked on April 29 near the USF campus. He was released on bail on April 30 after posting a $2,000 surety bond.
